Masjid Negara Kuala Lumpur

Since its completion on 27^th August 1965, Masjid Negara, or the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, has become a majestic symbol for Islam in Malaysia. Its unique modern design embodies both a contemporary expression of traditional Islamic and Malay architectural symbolism.

Its most striking feature is the dome, which resembles a partly opened umbrella like roof.

The mosque can accommodate a congregation of about 15,000. The National Mosque is not only a place of worship but serves also as an educational and social centre. Religious classes for children and adults, public seminars, and social functions such as weddings and festival celebrations are frequently held in its multipurpose halls, which are situated in the mosque complex.

Strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the National Mosque is situated close to the Railway Station, Daya bumi Building, the national post office, Islamic centre, Islamic Arts Museum, and the Lake Gardens.

The mosque encompasses an area of 13 acers and the main building covers about 3 acres of the land. Designed with four main gates, the national mosque is partly surrounded by embellished gates.
